President’s Service Blog: A Heartfelt Thank You

June 28, 2011

Lions and friends, thank you for reading my blog posts during the past year. It has been an honor to represent our members and the Lions mission.

I appreciate all of the clubs that took part in the Global Service Action Campaigns this year. You truly made a difference by Engaging our Youth in August, Sharing the Vision in October, Relieving the Hunger in December and January and Protecting our Environment in April.

After these many months of traveling, Judy and I can confidently say that Lions are a shining beacon of hope in their communities. Thank you Lions, for all that you do for others – both those down the street and around the world.

I was greatly honored to receive a Presidential Award this year. I am one of the “little people” who toil in the trenches by doing vision screening and fund raising and other service projects. While I have no desire to serve in offices, I appreciate those who take the time to be the faces of Lionism around the world. Thank you!

Mr. President, this has been a hard but great Lion Year for our club, taking part in the Global Service Action Campaigns that you indicated to make the difference. We have tried a true Lionism and hope to shine just a little from Sicily, as far, but as near, through the Web. Almost a new Lionism with you and your kind wife Judy, with a great Lions Heart beating together. It has been an honour for my husband President Giuseppe Vella and me with all our club having had you as International President and communicating in this fantastic Blog! In this way, we have flown higher and hope for the best future for Lions in our Land and everywhere! Thank you very very much!

Natalia Di Bartolo, Lions Club Agrigento Chiaramonte, District 108 Yb, Zone 25, Sicily, Italy. Grazie infinite! You have done a terrific job as a Lion and a leader and have truly “served” along with your lovely wife. The best to you as you step down, but continue in your service to others.

Thank you for the work you put into making Lions a better organisation and for your comments that we are not here just to “raise funds” and the suggestion that we take stock of what we do and who we support. Those comments renewed my faith in Lions

President Sid and 1st Lady Judy:

You are both what our organization needed during challenging times throughout the world. Your compassion and exuberance were contagious and “Beacon of Hope” was a tangible and appropriate message for everyone.

President Sid – you will never know how proud we were to have you visit San Bruno during our darkest time – you lifted spirits and empowered Lions and non-Lions to continue to serve those who lost everything.

Thank you, Lions Ken & Amy of San Bruno, California

    International President Sid.

Salutations from the land down under – Australia.

We appreciate your leadership and inspiration throughout the Lions year.

The beacon of hope is is fabulous and appropriate encapsulation of Lions in Action worldwide.

Of the many wise things that you have counselled throughout your presidential year, I was absolutely moved by your reference to taking off the auto pilot. ‘How true.’ The 1.4 million Lions worldwide need to take this message as gospel. In my part of the Lions world, it is absolutely essential that we take a fresh approach to addressing the future or we may be doomed as fabulous chapter in history.

Congratulations Sid on a fabulous and memorable year.

Please convey my warmest regards to Judy.
